As per the news, Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (retd), Chairman of the Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA), said on December 8, 2021, that the first units of the Mohmand Dam will begin functioning by December 25.

The WAPDA chairperson explained the planning, development and special initiatives to the delegation of the National Assembly Standing Committee. The delegation also visited the project site at River Swat in Mohmand Dam.
Construction work will also begin at 13 other sites. This includes reconditioning ponds, switchyard, access roads, left bank irrigation tunnels, diversion tunnels, power inlets and drains.
It is the fifth tallest concrete face-rock-fill dam (CFRD). It also reduces the risk of flooding in Naushera, Charsada and Peshawar by saving 1.2 million acres of water. 160,000 acres of existing land and 18,237 acres of new land will be irrigated.
The dam will generate 800 megawatts (MW) of electricity and provide 2.86 billion units of low-cost hydel electricity to the national grid. It will also provide 300 million gallons of water per day to Peshawar.
